Reports to:  Afterschool Co-ordinator.
Hours of Work: 16 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks per annum), 2.30pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Thursday, subject to alteration. Additional hours may be available during half term holidays.
Location: Based at YMCA, Surbiton, 49 Victoria Road, Surbiton, KT6 4NG

Pay:  £8.17 – £8.57 depending upon experience

Job Purpose and Scope
To work as part of the Children and Family Work Department in providing a programme of afterschool activities and care for children.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children through a range of appropriate activities, ensuring that they are age appropriate.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with all children in the play setting.
• Have a clear understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and implant its contents within the play provision, which is to include providing key worker responsibilities and regular observation and assessments.
• Take an active role in activity planning and preparation of the play provision.
• Ensure that behaviour management strategies are consistent with those of the organisation.
• Relate to, and communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding
• the setting and care of their child.
• Help promote effective teamwork in conjunction with other staff and volunteers.
• Take an active role in activity planning and preparation of the play provision.

Health and Safety
• Be aware of health and safety procedures at all times.
• Ensure that appropriate daily risk assessments are carried out and that any hazards identified are reported to the Coordinator.

General
• Attend all relevant training and development programmes. (This is to include food handling, paediatric first aid and child protection).
• Attend all relevant cross departmental, and Corporate Office meetings as and when required.
• Adhere to the Children and Family Work Department’s Policies and Procedures.
• Undertake all duties with regard to the Association’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and other policies and procedures adopted by the Association.
• Respect the Christian ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values.
• Undertake any other duties as requested by line manager.

Annual Leave
Commencing at 25 days per annum plus public holidays (for five days per week workers; otherwise pro-rata).
