The New Year is here, and for many, this means you can start off with a clean slate and make some exciting plans for the year ahead. Could 2015 be the year that you run your first Marathon or take on an adventurous obstacle course challenge? Or will you team up with fellow gym members to feel the pain of the old Spartans?
By fundraising for us, you don’t only get to fulfill YOUR dreams and goals for the New Year, but you will also be supporting our important work with homeless people and young people and families.
The monies raised from the fundraising places in the challenges below will go to our work in London South West with children, families and young people, and with people who for various reasons have become homeless.
So what are you waiting for? Let’s make 2015 the year of exciting new challenges!
6 March: Sleep Easy
Sleep Easy is our biggest fundraising event of the year, and aims to raise money towards our work with young, homeless people.
This is a fun family friendly event perfect for a group consisting of parents and children. By ‘sleeping rough’ for one night, you will get a feel of how it is to live on the streets, although on our two events in Kingston and Wimbledon, we do offer a warm place to take shelter if the weather is too cold and wet, and you will be served hot soup during the night and breakfast in the morning….
Some of the money raised will go to the Merton Winter Night Shelter for homeless people, and some will go to our work with young homeless people in our hostels in Wimbledon and Surbiton.

26 April: London Marathon
This iconic Marathon takes place on 26th April and is one of the biggest Marathon events in the world. If you are up for the challenge, NOW is the time to sign up as places are extremely popular and we have very few left.
For this race, fundraising surpluses will be split between YMCA St Paul’s Group and YMCA England. YMCA LSW will provide runners with support in the training period, including personal training sessions and nutrition advice.

16 May: Spartan Challenge
This is not a fundraising event but rather a team event for gym members from all our YMCA gyms in Kingston, Surbiton, Hampton Pool and Wimbledon.
The Spartan Challenge is a worldwide obstacle course challenge that comes to the Saracens Rugby Club, Allianz stadium in London on 16th May. This year, fitness instructors from our gyms will be taking part, and they would like to be accompanied by you!
If enough people sign up, the gyms will be running Spartan specific training for all gym members who sign up at their own centre from early February. If you are interested in becoming a part of the YMCA LSW team, please contact:
YMCA Hawker: Jake Walker or Ciaran Roe
Hampton: Richard Mason or Lorna Voogd
Surbiton: Ali Borhan or Vladena Jarosova
Wimbledon: Matt Farr or David Bassett
11 October: Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon
Possibly London’s most beautiful run? Enjoy London’s many parks and iconic landmarks in fresh autumn weather on this Half Marathon which takes you through Hyde Park, St James Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens.
We have 5 places available for this run. A place costs £20 and we ask participants to pledge to raise at least £300.
In 2014, over £3,500 was raised for YMCA LSW in the Royal Parks Half Marathon – can we reach £5,000 in 2015?
