Salary:     £27,000.00 per annum

The Association is the largest YMCA in Europe and one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond providing a safe place to stay for around 1,200 residents each night. As well as accommodation, care homes, education and training, the Association is focused on the transformation of communities through its Health and Wellbeing Centres, children, youth and family programmes including nurseries, after school clubs and soft play centres.

The role

This role is based at our YMCA in Wimbledon, reporting to the Area Director and responsible for the Health and Wellbeing team, as well as the Sales and Membership Team. The post holder will be expected to provide leadership, direction and operational management of the Health and Wellbeing department, with a hands-on approach and maintaining the YMCA Christian Ethos, that includes all Health and Wellbeing functions – Gym facilities, Classes, and Community Health and Wellbeing services. This includes working with the Strategic Lead for Health and Wellbeing and the Area Director to ensure the department meets the Vision, and relevant strategic aims and objectives of the Association, as well as ensuring that the department fully meets its legislative and regulatory requirements.

Some duties include:

  • Ensuring the highest standards of customer care are maintained
  • Answering any complaints or queries from members that the team cannot answer
  • Ensuring all staff are recruited, inducted and trained to deliver their service to a good standard
  • To write annual business plans, taking into account the strategic plan and budgets
  • Adjusting the operation and marketing of the service to ensure good financial performance
  • Ensuring sales teams are reaching targets
  • Seeking out funding for the development of community programmes

Applicants should:

  • Hold a CYQ Advance Gym Instructor (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) or above in a Health and Fitness related qualification that is recognised by REPS or CIMSPA
  • Have experience in managing a health and wellbeing facility that includes working in the community (out-reach)
  • Have significant experience in the Health and Fitness Industry (minimum 3 years)
  • Have experience of sales and retention operations
  • Have experience of sales and retention operations
  • Have experience of recruiting and managing staff and volunteers
  • Have experience of developing health and fitness programmes and services to engage customers and maintain retention levels
  • Have experience of managing a budget
