YMCA SPG has a growing presence across a number of London Boroughs including Waltham Forest, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, as well as in Elmbridge in Surrey and Slough in Berkshire. Services delivered by the Association include bed spaces for nearly 1200 people in housing need, Health and Wellbeing services, Youth Support and Advice, Education and Training as well and Children and Families work.
The assessment team are part of YMCA Walthamstow’s Housing department. The Housing department also has a Supported Housing team who work with 300+ residents providing support and accommodation in a mixture of hostel, bedsit and shared house accommodation.
The post holder will work within a team of Assessment & Housing Pathway workers to be responsible for supporting rough sleepers to find sustainable routes out of homelessness by carrying out initial assessments for rough sleepers in the borough of Waltham Forest. To be responsible for their move on into appropriate accommodation within required timescales. To also be responsible for finding routes into the private rented sector or other supported accommodation suitable to the client’s needs. To work closely with other housing providers, charities, the Local Authority and private landlords to identify and improve pathways out of rough sleeping.
- Have good understanding of Housing Regulations in relation to Homelessness
- Have experience of working with and formally assessing the needs of homeless people
- Have an understanding of the routes into homelessness, and the issues faced by rough sleepers
- Have proven experience of supporting vulnerable people to address their needs through case management and the provision of support
- Have experience of working within a small team and also lone working
