The Association is the largest YMCA in Europe and one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond providing a safe place to stay for around 1,200 residents each night. As well as accommodation, care homes, education and training, the Association is focused on the transformation of communities through its Health and Wellbeing Centres, children, youth and family programmes including nurseries, after school clubs and soft play centres.

The role

This role is based at our YMCA in Wimbledon, reporting to the Area Support Services Manager and responsible for Chefs, Catering Assistants and the School Cook. The post holder will be expected to lead, train, supervise and delegate duties to the catering team, ensure the smooth running of the kitchen and cook and create menus for all users, ensuring the food prepared is both varied and nutritional as well as staying within budget.

Ideally, we are looking for a person with previous experience in a similar role and who will bring energy, passion and commitment to this position. An understanding of the social housing/charity sector would be advantageous.

Some duties include:
• Overseeing the expenditure of the department, ensuring there is minimal waste
• Ensuring hygiene standards are maintained at all times
• Communicating with the Area Service Support Manger about bookings, functions and children’s parties
• Cooking and overseeing the cooking of meals to all service users
• Ordering and maintaining appropriate stock levels to meet demands
• Providing line management, mentoring and coaching to the staff team

Applicants should possess experience of working in a similar role at a similar level of responsibility; possess cooking qualifications level 3 diploma or higher; possess good communication and relationship management skills; have knowledge of health and safety issues.
