5 July 2023

Welcome to the July issue of our monthly online newsletter for children and families, produced by the Children and Family Work team at YMCA St. Paul’s Group.

We help whole families to flourish. We have safe and trusted Early Years care and developmental activities, family support and mediation help when difficult issues arise at home or school, summer and school holiday camps, and activities that are just plain fun for everyone.

Take a look at the sections below to learn about what we will be up to across our various children and families services in July.

Capturing Jumpers! Nursery on film

To effectively communicate our vision, values, and unique offerings, we decided to make a film, to capture the essence of Jumpers! Nursery in a visually engaging and compelling manner.

We were lucky enough to have 2 parents who were willing to speak on camera, and who were able to provide a parents’ perspective of the nursery, based on their own experiences and the experiences of their children. The nursery staff and children were of course central to the film and did a fantastic job on filming day. The children were all extremely interested in the camera and filming equipment – we even had a drone!

We are so proud of the results – why not take a look?

National mud day

On 29 June, the children at Jumpers! Nursery took part in some fun activities to celebrate international mud day.

International Mud Day is an exciting date not only to play and have fun with mud but to raise awareness about cleanliness and access to sanitation in different parts of the world! International Mud Day strives to bring children from all over the world together through the ground by allowing them to play in the mud. Children and early childhood professionals all over the world celebrate International Mud Day by getting really muddy and observing nature, the outdoors, and mess.

Welcome to the team!

Heidi Basterfield and Muanji Mukeba have joined the Jumpers! team as bank staff. We wish them a very warm welcome to YMCA St Paul’s Group.

Leavers party

We will celebrating our leavers with a party on Friday 28 July, 6.30-8.00pm. This will be a theme disco held in the activity studio at South Ealing.
Come and say ‘bye’ to your friends as they leave us for a new chapter in their life. All Jumpers! children are welcome to attend.

Crafting Connections – Happy 75th Birthday NHS!

The Handsworth children were challenged to create a poster celebrating 75 years of the NHS, as the next instalment of their crafting connections project. They were also asked to write a little bit about what the NHS means to them, to send to their crafting connections pen pals in the care home.

Crafting connections is a project that aims to boost wellbeing, reduce loneliness and foster stronger, happier communities by creating joyful intergenerational experiences.

Out and about in the local community

It was wonderful to welcome so many of you to our stand at the Ham Common Fair on a fantastic sunny Saturday in June.

Ham Common, just a short walk from the YMCA Hawker Centre, Kingston, was packed with local families enjoying the many stands and activities on offer from a wide range of stallholders. And with warm sunny skies, the crowds were really out in force.

As an important part of the local community, YMCA St Paul’s Group was delighted to be represented, and have the chance to chat with local visitors.

We were able to highlight our many services which take place at YMCA Hawker, from kids’ softplayWild Play Days holiday play schemes and sports classes, to the health and wellbeing offerings from our gymcafe and fitness rooms.

It was great to see the kids captivated by our bubble machine, and we even had a few treats for them to take away to enjoy!
