Welcome to the November issue of our monthly online newsletter for children and families, produced by the Children and Family Work team at YMCA St. Paul’s Group.
We strive to create positive outcomes with children and young people in their communities, and provide support for families with nursery, day care, holiday and year-round programmes.
Take a look at the sections below to learn about what we will be up to across our various children and families services in November.
Remembrance day
Remembrance Day is on Friday 11 November and is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.
The children at Jumpers nursery will be focusing on Remembrance day by creating crafts for display boards and learning about this memorial day.
Staff Training day
We have an upcoming training day for our staff, so the nursery will be shut on Friday 18 November 2022.
St Andrew’s Day
Saint Andrew’s Day, also called the Feast of Saint Andrew or Andermas, is the feast day of Andrew the Apostle. It is celebrated on 30 November. Saint Andrew’s Day is Scotland’s official national day. The children at Jumpers nursery will be focusing on creating crafts for display boards and learning about this holiday. Happy St. Andrew’s Day from all of us at YMCA St Paul’s Group!
Christmas Nativity
We are delighted to be bringing you a Christmas Nativity play, performed by our Jumpers nursery children.
The performance will take place on Friday 9 December, from 10.30am – 11.30am at the Ealing green church.
We will be practising the the songs with your children, and it would be great if you could also practise with them at home!

Family Fun day for the whole community at YMCA South Ealing
Handsworth After School Club
The children and staff at Handsworth After School Club had a great time celebrating International day. They produced some fantastic flags, and talked about all the different countries that influence their lives.
Indoor woodland
The children at Hampton Preschool have enjoyed playing with natural resources and using the magnifying glasses to find bugs in our ‘indoor woodland’. Thy collected leaves, sticks and other natural materials from the preschool garden.
The Colour Monster
During Hello Time the children looked at The Colour Monster book. We talked about our feelings and the colours. We then looked around our room for colours of the monster to put in his monster jar.
Pasta playtime!
The children at Hampton Preschool played with green pasta, using their hands to manipulate and mould the wet pasta. Some of the children used scissors to cute the pasta and make patterns in the tray. We found the tweezers were quite difficult to use, but after a bit of practise we were able to use them to pick up very small pieces of pasta.
