This Saturday 16 December the Community Choir from YMCA Surbiton will be bringing the Christmassy spirit to Surbiton Farmer’s Market. The market is on Maple Road in Surbiton. It features 26 local farmers and producers offering fresh produce and speciality foods.
As you wander around the lovely array of food stalls, our Community Choir will be singing a mix of traditional carols. You can enjoy classics like Silent Night and O come all Ye Faithful. The choir will also be performing contemporary Christmas songs like Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. You’ll find the Community Choir well wrapped up and in fine voice outside Gordon Bennetts between 11am and 11.30am. There are 25 choir members so you won’t miss them, led by their choirmaster.

The Community Choir is a well established group at YMCA Surbiton, and welcomes new members. They get together to rehearse weekly on a Wednesday, 7pm-8.30pm in the café at the centre. It costs just £3.50 and is great fun. It’s suitable for all abilities. If you’re a beginner or a bit rusty, you will be made very welcome. The choir sing contemporary songs as well as well-known choral pieces, so there is something for everyone.
Surbiton Farmers’ Market has been a wonderful supporter of the Benchmark Theatre Group, which is also based at YMCA Surbiton. The group includes YMCA Surbiton and YMCA Wimbledon residents, staff and members of the public. The Farmers’ Market recently donated £1,500 to help the group.
Clare Fry, Team Leader, Community Activities at YMCA St Paul’s Group said: ‘The Benchmark Theatre Company is thrilled and grateful for the kind donation from Surbiton Farmers’ Market. The money is allowing us to run our next project, a new writing festival where we will perform short plays written by residents and community members. The money makes a real difference. It allows us to continue our work, and means a lot as it’s coming from another local group.’
