The Association is the largest YMCA in Europe and one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond providing a safe place to stay for around 1,200 residents each night. As well as accommodation, care homes, education and training, the Association is focused on the transformation of communities through its Health and Wellbeing Centres, children, youth and family programmes including nurseries, after school clubs and soft play centres.

The role

This role is based at our YMCA in Wimbledon, reporting to the Area Services Support Manager. The post holder will be expected to be the manager with operational responsibility for the smooth running of the Centre whilst on duty during evenings and weekends, dealing with issues, problems, incidents and complaints as they occur. They will also be responsible for the wellbeing of residents, staff, members and other users on a daily basis and the safety and security of the premises.

Ideally, we are looking for a person with previous experience in a similar role and who will bring energy, passion and commitment to this position. An understanding of the social housing/charity sector is essential. The ideal applicant should be willing to work shifts Monday to Friday 5.00pm to 9.00pm and Saturday to Sunday 8.30am to 8.30pm (subject to change).

Some duties include:
• Providing leadership to the Centre in the absence of Departmental managers
• Supporting and encouraging the Reception Team in undertaking their duties, providing breaks, helping out on Reception when busy and assisting with end of shift cashing up procedures
• Taking a day to day role in the management of residents over issues such as behaviour, rent/personal contribution payments/arrears, and social interaction; ensuring consistency of approach by the Housing and Support Team and adherence to the Licence Agreement and Residents’ Rights and Responsibilities
• Manage and de-escalate challenging situations and behaviour from residents and visitors; discourage residents and visitors from congregating around entrance to the building
• Providing high quality customer service to members of the public, residents, and other Centre users
• Undertaking administration duties as requested by line manager

Applicants should demonstrate an understanding of the YMCA and its services; be willing to work towards being a qualified First Aid appointed person; have an understanding of housing support services; have an understanding of child protection and adult safeguarding issues; have an understanding of confidentiality in support setting; have previous experience of dealing with emergencies and challenging situations; have experience of providing a service to the public and have experience of cash handling, credit card transactions and reconciling tills.
