Racket throwing, fancy dress crawling, fishing strawberries out of a bowl of cream with your mouth… The annual YMCA LSW staff sports day isn’t exactly the Olympics, but it’s just as fun and the stakes are almost as high, when Housing meets Human Resources and Finance goes head to head against  Receptionists…

On Tuesday 24 June it was once again time for the annual YMCA LSW staff sports day, taking place at the sports fields outside YMCA Hawker, idyllically located alongside the river Thames in North Kingston.

Here, staff from across the Association got to know each other better and enjoy a few hours in the summer sun, all whilst working a sweat and getting their heartbeats up by sprinting, throwing and crawling.

A sports day is not only a great idea for team building event why not organise one for your child’s birthday party, or in the park on a summer picnic?

The Pod soft play is even organising their own sports day on Tuesday 30 June. All children aged 0-11 are invited to a fun day out. The £5 entry fee even includes a play session in the Pod.

Feel good this summer for only £35 for 30 days

In many ways, the staff sports day marked the beginning of the summer season at YMCA St Paul’s Group.

Come the school holidays, YMCA LSW will be running summer holiday playschemes, the Junior Leadership course and lots of other fun and active events for children and young people in the boroughs of Kingston and Merton.

From 1 July until 31 August you can try our Health & Fitness services for only £35 for 30 days*. During your trial period you will get unlimited access to all our fitness classes and unlimited use of our gyms.

Also included is the Get Started Programme, five one-to-one sessions with qualified members of staff that will help you get started with your exercise regime. To find out more, please contact your local YMCA LSW centre.

5 ways to get active with YMCA LSW this summer

Signing up to our summer fitness promotion isn’t the only way to feel good this summer. Why not challenge yourself and a friend to a sporty challenge, or join the Dragon Boat Race in Kingston on 19 July?

Here are four ideas for how to get active over the next few months:

  • Run for us in the Royal Parks Half Marathon – If you start training now you’ll be ready for the race on 11 October.
  • Take a dip in the Hampton Open Air Pool.
  • Try a new fitness class at one of our centres. From 6 July, Insanity and Legs, Bums and Tums (LBT) classes are starting at YMCA White House, and every Sunday until the end of June YMCA Hawker is trialling PiYo, the new fitness sensation from the States.
  • Join our weekly senior walks from Surbiton, Kingston (Hawker) and Wimbledon. We can guarantee beautiful and interesting scenery and lovely company.
