YMCA St Paul's Group

Location:  Based at YMCA Wimbledon, SW19, expected to regularly visit and work at all Merton Night Shelter venues, and may be required to work at any YMCA St Paul’s Group location

Contract:  Fixed term; 40 hours per week (as required to run the service), including evenings, weekends and public holidays

Salary:     £14.40 per hour

YMCA St Paul’s Group (SPG) emerged from the coming together of four separate Associations over an 18-month period. The group is largest YMCA in Europe and one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond providing a safe place to stay for over 1,200 residents each night.

The role

This role is based at the YMCA in Wimbledon, reporting to the Area Housing Manager and responsible for Project Assistants (MWNS), Venue Coordinators and Volunteers. The postholder will be expected to develop and maintain the project plan for the Winter Night Shelter (WNS). This will include identifying and approaching suitable venues to host WNS to ensure the period of the shelter scheme (November to April/May) is covered including the extended period. The postholder will also be responsible for recruiting and supervising a team of assistants who will be instrumental in the day-to-day running of the night shelters.

Applicants should have:

  • Experience of working face to face with homeless people
  • Experience of handling housing referrals and assessments
  • Knowledge of the local area housing provision
  • Understanding of the benefits system and problems facing homeless people
  • Ability to lead and support the team you are responsible for

 

It is beneficial but not essential for applicants to have experience of working with people who are suffering from addiction and/or mental health illnesses; a full driving licence and access to own vehicle.
