Our Director of Operations, Jessica Laryea, has appeared on podcast series ‘Breaking the Cycle’, with host Michael Coates.
Breaking the Cycle highlights the challenges, achievements, and societal issues within social housing. In episode 5 he speaks to our very own Group Director of Operations, Jessica, for an inspiring and honest chat about life growing up in Austria, volunteering for YMCA and her 20 year career, the beginning of the YMCA and how YMCA St Paul’s Group continues to support communities today.
Michael himself is a former soldier, and a former firefighter. Born and bred in Hull, in East Yorkshire, Michael was raised in social housing and joined the army at 16, where he served for six years, going twice to Iraq, before spending nine years in the fire service and then starting Combat Pest Control.
It’s fantastic to contribute to a series that is so focused on the issues of the social housing sector. Alongside Jessica, Michael has interviewed people from Centrepoint, Quo Vadis Trust, Single Homeless Project, and Notting Hill Genesis, with more to come. There is amazing diversity and strength across the sector and that is spearheaded by people like Jessica.
