Job Title: Project Assistant (MWNS)
Location: Based at YMCA Wimbledon, expected to regularly visit and work from all Winter Night Shelter venues
Contract: Fixed Term until 31st March, when the project ends.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (the hours can potentially be job shared depending on applications)
Salary: £1,703.87 per month

The Role

This role is based at our YMCA in Wimbledon, reporting to the Project Co-ordinator at the Merton Winter Night Shelter (MWNS). The post holder will be expected to support the Project Coordinator in delivering the night shelter project and offer guests safe, appropriate shelter and support throughout the project run from 30th November until March whilst providing support to the venue teams by regularly visiting all venues.

Ideally, we are looking for a person with previous experience in a similar role and who will bring energy, passion and commitment to this position. An understanding of the social housing/charity sector is essential.

Some duties include:

  • Undertaking case work and accompany guests to appointments when necessary
  • Helping to manage client referrals and assessments, undertaking case work, move-on and referrals
  • Sending referrals each day to the team leader of the hosting faith group
  • Updating the MWNS blog and social networking accounts regularly
  • Supporting the venue team leaders in dealing with difficult behaviour and participate in any decisions to ban guests
  • Preparing resources such as current list of guests, log book and project phone for the venues on agreed days

Applicants should have an understanding of the problems facing homeless people; have a knowledge of local area housing provision; have an understanding of the benefits system; have an understanding of confidentiality in a support setting; have experience working face to face with homeless people; have experience of recording, monitoring, report writing; have experience of handling housing referrals and assessments and have experience completing health and safety assessments.
