Receptionist Team Leader (Mat Cover)

The Association is the largest YMCA in Europe and one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and beyond providing a safe place to stay for around 1,200 residents each night. As well as accommodation, care homes, education and training, the Association is focused on the transformation of communities through its Health and Wellbeing Centres, children, youth and family programmes including nurseries, after school clubs and soft play centres.
This role is based at our YMCA in Wimbledon, reporting to the Area Services Manager. The role is 40 hours per week however this is negotiable. The post holder will be expected to provide leadership, direction and operational management of the day reception (9am-9pm) team, with a hands-on approach, work with the Area Services Support Manager to ensure department meets the vision, and relevant strategic aims and objectives of the Association; ensure a high quality provision of service and excellence in customer care; provide a welcoming presence and be an information point to all visitors, guests, members and telephone callers to the Association; Assist reception staff particularly in controlling ‘people traffic’ in the reception area.
Ideally, we are looking for a person with previous experience in a similar role and who will bring energy, passion and commitment to this position. An understanding of the social housing/charity sector would be advantageous.
Duties include leading and developing an effective and efficient reception team; Dealing with complaints; Handling cash and card transactions; Manage the petty cash and cashing up procedures at the end of the day; Be the first point of call for emergency services; Ensure that data is managed in line with GDPR; Recruit, induct and train Reception staff; Oversee shift rotas and shift changes; Update our computer systems.
Applicants should be prepared to work day shifts on a shift rota basis covering all the days of the week, including bank and public hols. Applicants should possess some experience of working in a similar role at a similar level of responsibility; possess good leadership, communication and relationship management skills; have experience of dealing with vulnerable groups and security issues associated with a residential setting; possess experience of cash-handling and security of cash; be numerate and computer literate with good customer service/front of house skills.
