Sports Blast is a three-year health and wellbeing project for young adults and families in the Mitcham area, part of YMCA LSW’s community work in the borough.
The aim of the project is to deliver a range of inclusive physical activity and wellbeing opportunities that will improve the health and wellbeing of residents in Mitcham.
The Sports Blast project runs from 2014 to 2017 and is possible thanks to an award of over £120,000 from Sport England and the National Lottery, as well as the combined effort of the Merton based partner organisations, including Merton Council, YMCA St Paul’s Group and several others.
The Sports Blast classes and sessions by YMCA LSW are similar to those we run at our regular gyms (for instance at YMCA Wimbledon), however there is one important difference: all our Sports Blast classes are entirely free of charge.

St Mark’s Academy, Acacia Road, Mitcham CR4 1SF
There are 2 access points to get to the YMCA LSW Sports Blast Site Entrance, depending on what direction you are coming from:
- Walk down Acacia Road and past the BMX tracks. The entrance is the large double green gates on your left hand side.
- From the Acacia Centre: walk down the footpath towards the Acacia Adventure Playground; the entrance will be on your right hand side.
Once you pass through the gates, turn right and walk around the building – an entrance is open opposite the football pitches. This entrance brings you directly on to the Sports Blast Corridor.
Throughout the year, the Sports Blast partners organise Urban Games sports days where you can come to do activities, try lots of free sessions and get more information about the project.
