“It’s not often we get the chance to leave positive feedback or thank the people that have helped us along our journey of life, but I cannot express enough praise and gratitude for the most amazing trainers I have had at YMCA Walthamstow.”
Safa’s membership at YMCA Walthamstow began shortly after Christmas last year. She had made the daunting decision to trek to Everest Base camp for charity and realised that she needed to train her body, focus her mind and get fit – quick!
“I’m not a gym girl” she said “not one bit, but this place is different. I have never felt more welcome, from the staff on the reception, to the trainers. At first I was slightly apprehensive: would this gym be like all the others?”
Safa’s nerves were quickly set at ease by the professional and friendly manner in which the classes were conducted and the PT sessions run.
“The trainers are all quality and all have their own way of doing things, and clearly love what they do. Don’t get me wrong here, they don’t let you go easy, but that’s half the fun. They know how much I can handle and tailor each session to me, pushing my body to its limit and making me hurt in places I didn’t know existed! I’ve found new confidence in myself, and have realised that maybe I can do this whole fitness thing.”
In March, Safa set off on a 3-week trip to the Himalayas to begin my attempt to trek to Everest Base Camp and back. “It was the single toughest challenge of my life, spending countless days/nights in sub-zero temperatures and climbing for 8-10 hours a day. My mental and physical game needed to be strong, and it was.
“I managed to make it to Everest Base Camp at nearly 18,000 feet. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my amazing trainers.
I’d just like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to them; Michael, Simeon and Saffiyah – you guys are totally amazing! Your training and support helped me achieve my goal of reaching Everest, and I am forever grateful.”
Well done, Safa! We are proud to have been part of your journey and proud of your amazing achievements.
