On 24th November 2014 YMCA St Paul’s Group received their ‘Commitment’ Award as part of the London Mayor’s Healthy Workplace Charter.

The Charter has been running for 3 years encouraging London businesses to work along a framework that provides a series of standards for workplaces to meet under key headings such as corporate support; health and safety; attendance management; physical activity; healthy eating; smoking cessation; substance use and mental health and wellbeing.

Watch a film presenting our work with the charter  here.

Employers are encouraged to work towards three levels against each standard: commitment; achievement, and excellence, with a London Borough workplace health lead providing support and advice.

Gina King, Director of Health and Wellbeing at YMCA LSW, said:

Entering the awards allowed us to self-audit the work we do to support staff in regards to their health and wellbeing. As an organisation that advocates healthy lifestyles to our customers, residents and local communities it is just as important to ensure the same message and support goes out to all our staff. Yes, there is some work to do in preparation but it is definitely worth it!

I had great support from my Royal Borough of Kingston Public Health Lead and help from other staff within my organisation. The Award night on 24th November was a great night receiving the award along with other organisations, trusts and local councils at the Great London Authority.

The next step is getting ready to obtain the ‘Achievement’ level by June 2015 and then ‘Excellence’ by early 2016”.
