We were delighted to attend this year’s YMCA National Conference with a delegation of ten, made up of staff members, trustees, and resident representatives. The conference, titled “Translating Strategy into Action” was held at the East Midlands Conference centre, based on the campus of Nottingham University.
In a new addition to the programme, we enjoyed some great excursions to local YMCAs, including YMCA Lincolnshire, YMCA Burton, YMCA Derbyshire, YMCA Leicestershire, and YMCA Robin Hood Group. These YMCAs kindly opened their doors to us, allowing us to see their programmes and activities in action. Here are two of our resident reps enjoying the climbing wall at YMCA Lincolnshire:
It was great to get together with colleagues from across YMCA St Paul’s Group, including our Chair of Trustees, Helen Brewer. There were lots of inspiring plenary speakers who addressed the conference, as well as a wide variety of fantastic workshops where we were able to share and discuss ideas.
After dinner speaker Rory Bremner brought his unique humour and wit to the occasion, whilst also talking very knowledgeably and movingly about his own experiences with neurodiversity and ADHD, and how these affect young people.
