Hello everyone and welcome to the first-ever Dickerage Blog. My name is Daniel Slocombe and I have been working for YMCA St Paul’s Group for nearly 3 years and at Dickerage Sports and Community Centre for over 20.
YMCA Dickerage Sports and Community Centre
The Centre is a hub for the local community. We provide sessions for all ages and have a large playground area with great sports facilities.
The centre and its community have become a large part of my life.
For those of you who are reading this and have never been down to YMCA@Dickerage please come and visit us once we are fully open, visit our webpage to keep up to date.
Our work in the community at this time
The last few months have been a very strange time for everyone but the hope is we will slowly be getting back to some sort of normality in the coming months. I have, along with the staff, really missed that face-to-face interaction with you all.
Allison and Matt have been reconnecting with the young people and the community on Mondays and Thursdays. This, in time, will lead to us delivering more and more sessions for you all. We hope to be able to open the Playground very soon.
We have been working hard on social media and live Zoom sessions to keep you engaged with our services. So, there have been numerous posts and videos, that I hope have both educated and entertained you. Videos included mental health support, cooking tutorials, life skills, sports challenges, magic tricks, arts and crafts, songs, and stories for own younger members. I even attempted a stand-up comedy routine! This was a new experience for myself and the team at YMCA@Dickerage. Again, I hope you have enjoyed and found something that may have helped along the way. Check out our IGTV videos for many more.
This week saw the mandatory use of face-coverings in all shops across England. Visit our social media pages, Instagram, and Facebook, to find out how you can make your own face coverings and how to wear them properly. Please feel free to send me any suggestions for future posts.
So there it is my first attempt at a blog.
Until next time…
Stay safe everyone and keep to the government guidelines, protect yourself, your family, and your friends. Speak to you all again and look out for my next blog, I will be writing to you every two weeks.
