On Sunday 8 July we’re hosting the 11th Junior Tennis tournament – join us to support the youngsters as they compete! It’s a Knock-out format, and all singles finals will play over a set of six games. Some of the players will be seeded, based on draw size and matchplay rankings when the draw is done. LTA ratings 7.2 or better will take priority. It promises to be an exciting event. Can you tear yourself away from Wimbledon to come along and show our support?!
At YMCA Hawker we’ve been hosting professional tennis coaching for 14 years with a well -respected junior tennis programme which features weekly matchplays, squads, as well as junior teams who compete in local competitions. Here’s what two of our teenage members have to say:
Moritz Stuebing, 16
“I’ve played tennis at YMCA Hawker for around 10 years. I do a bit of coaching now, I really like it, it’s rewarding. My dad was semi-professional when he was a teenager. I’ve played a few matches with him, and we’re looking into playing some doubles tournaments which is great. I can’t beat him, he’s still really good!”
Harry Vincent, 18
“I was in the first ever squad here, and have been in every one since. I really liked the Matchplays that Nick runs every weekend, and I was number one in 2008. Out of all the tournaments I’ve played, the Surrey Under-16s was the best when Mortiz and I played doubles. We just clicked and played really well; we didn’t lose a match.”
