How long have you been with YMCA St Paul’s Group?
I’ve been with YMCA SPG since 2015, and it’s definitely been a journey! Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work across three different departments, each role has taught me something new and kept things fresh.
What new skills have you developed during your time here?
I’ve picked up so many new skills. When I started at YMCA SPG, I was a volunteer with no admin or computer skills – I was even nervous to answer the phone! But with practice, support, and a real willingness to learn, I’ve come a long way. I’ve developed strong communication and organisational skills, gained confidence using different systems as a system administrator, and become computer literate, with practical experience using Microsoft Office packages. I also run training sessions for
managers and facilitate inductions for new staff. Throughout my journey, I’ve grown both professionally and personally, becoming much more resilient.
How would you describe your experience working at YMCA SPG?
It’s been a really positive experience. I’ve had the chance to meet some fantastic people and work with great leaders who believed in me, encouraged my growth, and taught me a lot. It’s also a fun place to be—a lot of memorable staff events, Christmas parties, and celebrations that bring everyone together. The sense of community here is something I truly value.
What would you say to someone considering a role at YMCA SPG?
Go for it! YMCA SPG is a great place to work if you want to grow and develop new skills. No two days are ever the same—one minute you’re behind a desk working through spreadsheets and KPI reports, the next you’re helping out at an event or welcoming new staff. It keeps you on your toes in the best way! You’ll learn loads, meet amazing people, and probably find yourself laughing more than you expected at work.
