We are delighted to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection, in which YMCA Handsworth Primary After School Club achieved a Strong standard in three key areas:
We’re also pleased that our safeguarding standards were met and that we met the requirements of both the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register.
Celebrating What Makes Our Club Special
The inspection highlighted many of the things we value most at our club: the positive relationships our team builds with children, our welcoming and inclusive environment, and the importance we place on listening to children’s voices.
Inspectors recognised how children are encouraged to make choices, enjoy healthy snacks, take part in a variety of activities, and develop friendships with children of different ages. These everyday experiences help create a fun, supportive space where children feel safe, happy and able to be themselves.
Supporting Every Child
We were particularly pleased that the report recognised the support we provide for children with additional needs, along with the strong communication we maintain with parents, carers and the school.
The report also highlighted the opportunities children have to complete their homework and receive support when needed, helping them to feel confident both in and out of the classroom.
Looking Ahead
As part of the inspection, Ofsted identified one area for further development: ensuring that behaviour expectations and boundaries are applied consistently by all staff.
We welcome this feedback as part of our commitment to continuous improvement. We’re always looking for ways to strengthen our provision and ensure every child has the best possible experience at our club.
We are incredibly proud of our fantastic staff team, whose dedication and care make a difference to children every day. We would also like to thank all of our children, parents and carers for being such an important part of our YMCA community. Your support, feedback and partnership help us continue to create a positive environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.
